This stanley park tour will take place near the site of Xwáýxway (Whoi-whoi), the village settlement inhabited by Sḵwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation for thousands of years. We will explore its history, the totem poles, as well as the general history of the indigenous peoples in BC through an archaeological-based perspective.
We will talk along the trails of Stanley Park on this free tour and identify the many plants and animals that call this park home. Through an ethnobotanical approach, you will learn about the various ways in which the resources in the forest have been used by indigenous peoples.
Stanley Park was established as a public park in 1888. Learn about the stories of the multi-cultural community that existed in the park until the 1920's and how this area was created into the modern urban park that it is today.
